HISTORIC REINVENTION & REDEVLOPMENT
Hodgson’s Residence
Harding Township, NJ
MARKET SIGNIFICANCE:
Conceived as a retreat for a British couple relocated to the US, this 1920’s era rural home was stripped of its midcentury modernist additions and restored and recreated in the image of a modestly scaled English country home and estate.
A beautiful heavily treed site in Harding Township was reimagined to provide a wonderful landscaped context for the reinvention of this rural residence.
A portion of the site was re-contoured with lush lawns to provide a setting for several open sun filled terraces and its feature pergola and exterior fireplace. Views from the central living areas include these enhanced southern exposures towards and stone folly set in the landscape. Passive solar gains from these angles also provide warm, inviting, and light filled interiors for these family living spaces.
The interior also features two two-story open spaces at each end of the floor plan. Each captures views to the exterior landscape and adjacent living and eating areas. Decorative built ins and other design features including interior lighting and art walls enhance each of these special areas for this country estate.
